Rankings, ALFa, AI & integrity
Much of competitive pool still treats Fargo as the default rating layer—a single-number, single-skill model that many tournament directors now describe as unreliable for how events are actually seeded and contested. USPBF is moving past that ceiling.
ALFa is our cross-format rating system, built to replace Fargo as the primary signal over time. It can import Fargo historical data so careers are not discarded, then apply AI and statistical checks to see whether those legacy ratings still match real results—tightening the model instead of freezing on an outdated number.
The same pipeline is designed for meaningful anti-cheat support: AI-assisted watchdogs help players and directors spot patterns that do not line up with claimed skill—during events as well as after, as results stream in. We focus on fair, explainable signals tied to match data and outcomes, not hype.
AI Coach helps members improve their game, navigate the site and app, and get more from training.
Pro Billiards Software is the engine: brackets, events, ratings, and director tools all run there. uspbf.com is the federation’s public site—it reads from that same Pro Billiards Software backend so rankings and tournament history stay in sync. Our platform
Pro Billiards Software is the integrated engine: event creation, brackets, live scoring, multi-system lists, player analytics, AI Coach, and director tools. Because the federation owns the stack, results flow into rankings without reconciling separate vendors—data stays under USPBF control, with no third-party lock-in on pricing.
Elsewhere in the sport, associations often run on old, outdated third-party licensed tools (DigitalPool, CompuSport, CueScore, and similar), still leaning on rating systems like Fargo and a few others as the usual external third-party ratings, with limited in-product AI—if AI exists at all in their software—while players are often stuck catching errors in rankings and ratings.
That obsolete pattern is being conquered by AI-built systems such as Pro Billiards Software that eliminate much of the human error, close loopholes, and reduce the need for many disconnected associations—one roof, one system, one site, one rating approach, with AI woven through the stack. USPBF invested in its own platform so members get one path from registration through published rankings, with ratings and software able to evolve together.
